People who need love are less likely to live a lonely life than they are to rush into a new relationship.
People who need money are less likely to go hungry than they are to try a get-rich-quick program.
People who need control are less likely to continually feel powerless than they are spend twelve hours a day at work.
The greater our needs, the more likely we are to make bad decisions in order to meet those needs. The more desperate we are, the easier it is to take a short cut. The more urgent a situation is, the greater the possibility that we confuse provision with temptation.
God's provision for us is not always the first thing that pops up. New relationships, unique business opportunities, and hard work aren't necessarily bad things...in fact, they can be very good things. But, if we use them as quick solutions to problems that God plans to solve in a different way, than each is nothing more than temptation.
In his book Crazy Love, Francis Chan says the following: "Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don't really matter.”
Your next big opportunity could be provision...or it could be temptation. The key is in asking God to help you discern which is which.

Thats why I constantly am asking God for direction ... cautiously moving as doors open. Always asking waiting wondering??? It would be so much easier if an arrow sign with flashing lights dropped outta Heaven and said here this is who I want for you , this is the job you should take and this is where I want you to live etc.... : )
ReplyDeleteThis is great... because I'm always trying to control my future instead of letting God. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post. It couldn't have been more timely. I'm up against a lot of obstacles right now and I need to remember that G-d is in charge. He will make it right when it's meant to be right.
ReplyDeleteIn todays crazinees, this really make you think about what is important. Latly my world has been turned upside down, with all of the uncertainty with my job,and family. The only thing that I can say is that without God help, and knowing that throught all this craziness he is the only thing that I can depend on. I was so taking by this quote this morning that when I got to work I pre-oreded this book and the workbook. I can't wait to get startrd. Thanks for all your incouraging words and support everyday.
